Pop Shuvit
aka Pop Shove-it · Shuvit
Pop and hover while the board spins a flat 180 underneath you off a back-foot scoop. Your body stays facing forward — only the deck rotates.
The Breakdown
Four phases from roll-up to roll-away. Scrub the analyzer above — each phase lights up as the board hits it.
- 01 Approach
Set up the scoop
Roll at a comfortable cruising speed. Back foot on the tail but hanging slightly off the heel edge, angled so you can scoop it back behind you. Front foot stays near the bolts, light and ready to lift. Keep your shoulders square and pointed straight down the line.
- 02 Pop & Scoop
Snap back, not down
Pop the tail while flicking your back foot backward toward your heel, like dragging it off the edge of the board. That backward scoop is what spins the deck a flat 180. Pop and scoop happen in one motion, so do not pause between them.
- 03 Air
Hover and watch it spin
Lift both feet up and just let the board rotate underneath you. Keep your body still and facing forward — your shoulders should not turn at all. Stay centered over the spinning deck and watch it come back around to grip-side-up.
- 04 Catch & Land
Stop the spin with your feet
As the board completes its 180 and the grip faces up again, drop your front foot to catch it over the bolts. Then plant the back foot to kill any extra rotation. Land over the trucks with bent knees and roll away.
When It Goes Wrong
The most common ways Pop Shuvit bails — and the fix. Diagnose your slam, then get back on.
Why does my pop shuvit only spin halfway and come back?
Your scoop is too soft or too downward. The spin comes from flicking the back foot straight back toward your heel, not stomping down. Exaggerate that backward scoop and the board will carry a full 180 instead of stalling at 90.
The board flies out in front of me on a shove-it.
You are scooping out and away instead of back. Keep the scoop tight to your heel pocket so the board spins in place under you rather than rocketing forward. Staying centered over the deck instead of leaning back also keeps it close.
How do I stop landing primo on a pop shuvit?
Primo means you caught the board mid-rotation before it finished. Let the deck complete the full 180 so the grip faces up before your front foot comes down. Watching the board spin and catching it late fixes this almost every time.
My body turns with the board and I get tangled up.
A pop shuvit is a board-only spin — your shoulders and hips must stay facing forward. Fix your eyes on a point straight ahead and keep your chest still. Only the board rotates while you hover quietly above it.
The pop shuvit is your first real taste of making the board do something on its own. You pop and hover while a sharp back-foot scoop spins the deck a flat 180 underneath you — body dead still, only the board turning. It teaches the scoop motion that lives inside a ton of harder tricks down the line.
The classic mistake is turning your shoulders to “help” the spin. Don’t. Stare straight ahead, keep your chest quiet, and let the scoop do the work while you simply float and catch. Once the board comes back around to your feet every time, the tre flip and bigger spins start to make sense.

Medium deck (8.0"–8.25")
7-ply maple · medium concave
A medium concave gives your back foot a defined edge to scoop off, which is the whole engine of the trick. Too mellow and the deck has nothing for your foot to grab when you flick it back.

52–54mm · 99A duro
Harder wheels keep the spin snappy and predictable on flat. Soft wheels roll over cracks but soak up the energy you want feeding into a quick, clean rotation.

149mm · matched to deck width
Trucks sized to your deck keep the board balanced as it spins flat beneath you. A wildly mismatched width makes the rotation feel lopsided and harder to catch level.
